Story
The story unravels in a small city where a young woman tries to learn to play guitar. Her kind-hearted teacher guides her caringly which makes her fall in love with him. When her ex-boyfriend finds out about this he kidnaps her and threatens to kill her. How she escapes from his captivity is the main crux.
Suriya stellar performance as Kanguva and Francis received positive feedback from the audience.
The news of Suriya’s return to the lead role after 2 years break has hyped the film to another level.
The most-awaited film of the year Kanguva was finally screened in theatres on November 14, 2024 with great expectations. Soon after the film’s FDFS (First Day First Show) the fans filled the social media with positive reviews, however, some felt that script and screenplay were a huge let down. Kanguva had a good potential but it failed to impress the audience due to its sloppy execution. But there are few blocks here and there that took the viewers by suprise like Karthi‘s dual role in the modern era and in vikings period. Overall the story, screenplay, and songs are average but action sequences, VFX, and interval scenes are ultimate.
Kanguva is an another flop in director by Siva’s failure streak following Annaatthe, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, and Bholaa Shankar. Suriya and Bobby Deol’s exceptional acting skills combined with composer DSP’s music saved the film’s reputation, but it still scored low in the first day collection at the box office compared to its pre-release expectations. The story and screenplay’s connectivity in the first half is good but it totally went nuts after a certain point.

A fan wrote Kanguva First Half Wow, Suriya has delivered his career’s finest, This isn’t just a movie; it’s a cinematic revolution – 4/5.
Another fan commented that Kanguva is only worth watching for Suriya, even if the Francis portion are unimpressive #Suriya shed his blood n sweat for this movei and it’s clearly visible on screen but the story should been still more supportive for it.
A person also agreed and said despite the grand visuals, the film needed to be better, so did the portions with Francis.
Another one said Suriya isn’t enough to save Kanguva, Surya does well in his role and his efforts should be appreciated but it’s hard to save a script with just one person’s performance. They also added that The emotional connectivity needed for this for a film like this is completely missing.

The interval block twists and fights are mindblowing.

On 27 March 2023, the principal photography commenced. In July 2020, it was reported that Vijay Sethupathi will be taking the lead role in this film. However, in 2021, it is said that Arya is to play the lead once he finishes filming the Enemy movie. But in November, all the claims were dismissed by the makers, and in early January 2023, it was finalized that Karthi would be playing the lead role.
