Jijo Punnosse, who is known for creating India’s first 3D movie, My Dear Kuttichathan, has penned the screenplay. The film is based on Jijo’s novel Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure. The movie was mostly shot in Kochi, Goa, Bangkok, and Chennai. The plot revolves around a 400-year-old guardian spirit who was tasked to guard and hand over the wealth to a true descendant of its master.

In December 2024, the creators launched a 3D trailer in multiple Indian languages including Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Telugu. Those trailers garnered an overwhelming response from viewers and fans.
Barroz 3D – Guardian of Treasure Malayalam trailer was released on November 19, 2024, and received a positive response from the viewers. These two-minute and three-second videos show a guardian spirit stuck in a cave watching his master’s descendant.
Initially, the movie is planned to be released on 28 March 2024. Due to the post-production delay, the release date was postponed to 12th September 2024.
Netflix has the digital premiere rights to the Barroz film. The OTT release date has not yet been announced. It’ll take at least a month for a movie to stream online from the theatrical release.
